TRANSFERS: Newcastle United bizarrely linked with move for Antoine Griezmann

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Barcelona and France star Antoine Griezmann, per Italian media.

The club is in the midst of an apparent takeover which would see them become not only the richest club in England, but in the world.

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) are worth a reported £250bn. If you add up the net worth of all 19 other Premier League owners, it still doesn’t even come close to that figure.

As a result of that, some incredible news stories have begun to crawl out of the woodwork – starting with a proposed move for Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann.

The Frenchman’s name has been used in the media a lot lately with talk of him potentially being used in a part-exchange deal for both Lautaro Martinez and Neymar.

Barcelona categorically denied both stories but the fact remains, there is a lot of noise linking him with a move away from the Camp Nou this summer.

If Barcelona are to fund moves for the likes of Neymar and Martinez, they will almost certainly need to bring some money in. Cashing in on Griezmann seems to be their preferred method of doing so.

Could Newcastle United be the destination? Perhaps not. While it is very much an exciting time on Tyneside, I think people maybe shouldn’t get too far ahead of themselves..

If the takeover does indeed go through then you can bet your bottom dollar Newcastle will drop some serious cash over the next few years.

Despite that, talk of the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann coming in may be slightly premature… Obviously.

The fans are enjoying making something of a joke of this kind of talk – but many other outlets seem to be taking a far more serious approach to it.
