According to AS, Real Madrid are considering shipping out up to six first team stars this summer, including the likes of Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez.
Welsh star Gareth Bale has been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in every window for the last two seasons, but this summer looks as though it could eventually see his departure.
We contacted Bale’s agent for comment, he told us simply that “this story has been recycled for the last four years” and that it’s the “last thing on everyone’s mind right now.”
Alongside him, James Rodriguez will almost certainly leave Madrid this summer. His loan spell with Bayern Munich was mostly successful, but the German giants chose not to trigger their buyout clause.
There has been talk of the Colombian linking up with his former boss Carlo Ancelotti at Everton – a deal which would set Everton back around £30m.
As well as those two stars, it’s also expected that Achraf Hakimi will leave to join Borussia Dortmund permanently. He has been on-loan with the German giants for the last two seasons.
Lucas Vasquez, who is another player constantly linked with a move away, is also expected to leave. As is Mariano Diaz, although AS report he is reluctant to leave.
Alvaro Odriozola and Nacho Fernandez are both also on the list of players who could leave the Bernabeu this summer in what is seemingly a major overhaul.
The reason for the squad overhaul at Madrid could be COVID-19 related. The finances in football have taken a serious hit in recent times, and plenty of teams are looking to cash in on some expendable assets this summer.
The other possible solution to this conundrum is that the club are looking to generate the funds to bring in Kylian Mbappe – who would no doubt cost an arm and a leg for anyone that wanted to tempt him away from PSG.
