Spurs and Arsenal are both keen on landing young Norwich City star Max Aarons this winter – according to Sky Sports. Both North London sides have struggled with defensive worries this season and sit tenth and eleventh in the Premier League for goals conceded – both on 30.

Since Mourinho’s arrival at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his side have been leaking goals – especially in the Premier League. Since the Portuguese’s first game on November 23rd, Spurs have shipped 18 goals and managed just one clean sheet in all competitions.

Spurs and Arsenal target Aarons
Could youngster Max Aarons the key to fixing the defensive woes for Jose Mourinho and his Tottenham Hotspur team?

Aarons has been on the radar of Spurs since they sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid back in the summer – but they’re not the only ones interested. Aarons scooped the EFL’s young player of the year award last season and has played all but two of Norwich’s games this season – as a result, he’s gained admirers right around the Premier League.

According to Sky Sports, Everton, West Ham United AND Spurs’ local rivals Arsenal have all shown significant interest in the 19-year-old. Sky are also reporting that he could be signed for a fee of around £30million.

At this point, there isn’t a lot that hasn’t been written about Arsenal and their lack of defensive stability at this point – but here’s something, they actually looked decent in their last game against Manchester United. The Gunners currently sit tenth in the Premier League and have kept just four league clean sheets so far this season.

It seems a no brainer for me that Aarons would want to make a move to a bigger club – especially given that Norwich seem destined for relegation this season. I’m not overly sure Spurs is the best move for the youngster though and to be honest, if the choice was there, I’d pick Arsenal over Spurs if I were him.

Arteta and Ozil

Mikel Arteta’s style of football will suit Aarons and his desire to attack more than Mourinho’s will. There’s also the fact that Jose has been notorious for not putting his faith in youth over the years – something which Arteta has already shown he is willing to do in his short stint in North London.

The future looks bright for Arsenal under Arteta and although it’d be a big gamble for the youngster to put his faith in the new regime succeeding at Arsenal, it’s one I thoroughly believe he should take.
