Manchester United rejected by star striker

According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have been “rejected” by PSG and Uruguay striker, Edinson Cavani. The 32-year-old star has been told he is free to leave the Parc des Princes this month as his contract runs out at the end of the season.

According to Goal, in a report that stands up the claims of the Daily Mirror, the forward has “verbally agreed” to sign for Atletico Madrid by the end of the month rather than move to Old Trafford.

United reportedly offered a huge deal to tempt him away from the clutches of Atletico – they were ready to hand him a deal worth a massive £10m per year plus a MASSIVE signing on bonus. Unfortunately, Cavani has his heart set on a move to the Spanish capital.

It seems likely this whole saga will continue to rumble on until the summer with PSG demanding somewhere around £20m for the services of Cavani this month – ludicrous considering his age and the fact he is out of contract in a few months.

United target Cavani

According to FootMercato, the deal United offered to Cavani had only matched that of the deal Atletico offered to him, but the player has his heart set on a switch to Spain.

Cavani would be a huge coup for United should they manage to persuade him to come to Old Trafford – but he’s a short-term solution to a long-term problem for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.

As it is, it seems as though Edinson Cavani will be headed to Atletico Madrid, and Manchester United’s striker search will go on. Will they manage to get one in before the end of the winter window? I doubt it, but I’d fully expect them to drop a fortune on a forward in the summer…
