TRANSFERS: Jetro Willems declares desire to stay at Newcastle

Newcastle United’s on-loan left-back Jetro Willems has this afternoon expressed his desire to stay on Tyneside in an exchange with fans on Twitter.

While holding something of an impromptu question and answer session on social media, Willems told a fan that he wants to sign for Newcastle permanently.

He was first asked for an update on his injury, in which he told the concerned fan that he was “doing well, healthy and safe.” He then told another fan he expects to be ready to play again in August.

Another fan chimed in to ask him to come back in the summer when/if the new owners take control.

The Dutchman replied telling @NUFCNathan_1995: “everyone wants or hopes that I come back or sign a permanently deal at NUFC but I think its more a question for the club if they want me back.”

When asked by another fan what he wants to do in regards to his future, Willems replied simply with: “To sign and play for NUFC.”

Willems is currently on-loan to the Magpies from German Bundesliga side Frankfurt and reportedly has an option to buy in his loan contract for a fee in the region of £7m.

If he were to return to Tyneside, he’d be a very popular signing. His performances on the field as well as his refreshing honesty and personality off it have made him something of a fan favourite this year.

He’s also struck up something of a friendship with fellow left-sided star and Twitter funny-man Allan Saint-Maximin, which translated onto the field with some dynamic performances as a duo on that left-side.

Triggering Willems’ option-to-buy clause would be a great way for the potential new owners to immediately start things off on the right foot. Here’s hoping they go and do just that.

I’m pretty sure the Q&A session is still going on so, if you’ve got a question for the Magpie star, head to Twitter sharpish.
