Gedson Fernandes set to snub Manchester United?

The name Gedson Fernandes has become one of the most frantically searched in football so far this January, with the Portuguese starlet being linked to a number of top clubs following a fallout with Benfica boss Bruno Lage.

It was initially reported that Benfica would be seeking the full £102 million release clause from Fernandes’ contract, however they have since accepted that they will not be able to recoup that much money for a player that has fallen out of favour at the club.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with the young midfielder as someone to come in and fill in for Paul Pogba. Fernandes certainly meets the criteria identified by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he is a talented young player that could comfortably develop into a star for the club in the future – there’s just one key issue.

While Fernandes is keen to make the switch to the Premier League in a bid to further the development of his career, it has been reported that his preferred destination is actually the London Stadium, in a switch that would see him join the Hammers on an 18 month loan with an option to buy at the end of the spell.

If West Ham were able to secure this deal it would be a huge coup for the club, snapping up one of the top young talents in the world. He would provide new manager David Moyes with one hell of an option to freshen up his midfield and bringing in a player that a team such as Manchester United have been targeting is always a boost for morale among fans and players alike.

Some may question whether it would make sense for Fernandes to join West Ham when he could be set for a move to Manchester United, however it’s highly likely that he will see far more playtime in London than he would do in Manchester once key players return from injury, however it remains to be seen.
