Newcastle – Could England star be the answer to injury woes?

England and Tottenham star Danny Rose could be on his way to Newcastle United, according to the Telegraph. The out-of-favour left-back reportedly clashed with manager Jose Mourinho following his exclusion from the side in the 0-0 draw with Watford at the weekend, and Newcastle are reportedly set to offer him an escape.

The move would come at a very fortunate time for Newcastle following a period of incredible mis-fortune. Steve Bruce’s side has been plagued with injuries in the last three weeks, with the latest in a long line of blows coming in the win over Chelsea on Saturday.

Loanee left-back Jetro Willems was ruled out for the rest of the season alongside fellow wide defender Paul Dummett, leaving Newcastle pretty short on options in that area. With DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo also currently on the sidelines, United are currently being forced to play Matt Ritchie at LWB and Emil Krafth at RWB – with no senior backup.

Danny Rose a fit for Newcastle?

So far under Jose Mourinho, Rose has only started one game in the Premier League. The Portuguese has instead opted to shift Jan Vertonghen to that position several times and now, he has Welshman Ben Davies to call upon again – with Ryan Sessegnon as back-up.

That paves the way for a winter exit for Rose, bringing to an end a lengthy saga. The move, should it go through, will be an initial six-month loan deal and thus will be a short term solution to a Newcastle side who will likely attempt to bring Jetro Willems back to St James’ Park next season.

For me, this is a good move for United and one I’d definitely consider if I were Steve Bruce. It seems to be a win/win for all parties – Rose gets regular football, allowing himself to stake a claim to be on the plane for Euro 2020, Newcastle fill a gaping hole in the team and Mourinho gets rid of a problem player.
