Chelsea and Everton set to make big moves for talented Championship duo

According to the Sunday paper, Chelsea and Everton have been looking to the Championship, more specifically Wigan Athletic, as they think about bolstering their squad this summer.

Wigan duo Antonee Robinson and Joe Gelhardt have made a very positive impression this season. One of them even came inches away from signing for Italian giants AC Milan last month.

Chelsea look at Antonee Robinson

As mentioned above, Antonee Robinson was inches away from a winter move to AC Milan, only for it fall apart at the eleventh hour.

Now, according to the Mirror, the USMNT star could be set for a move to the Premier League this summer with Chelsea leading the charge.

Due to the poor form of both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri this season, Chelsea are looking to strengthen at the left-back position – with skipper Cesar Azpilicueta having to deputise there currently.

Robinson, who is 22-years-old, is seen as the perfect player to fill that void in the Chelsea side – but the Blues will likely face competition for his signature.

Fellow Premier League sides Newcastle United and Aston Villa are both interested in the player, while AC Milan will no doubt maintain an interest with their move having only broken down on Deadline Day due to a lack of time.

Whoever does win the race for Robinson will need to pay a fee of at least £10m to bring him to the club. However, if he continues to play well and more teams declare an interest in him, that fee will just keep on rising…

Everton look to bring ‘New Rooney’ Joe Gelhardt to Goodison

Joe Gelhardt is not a name that will be familiar to many Premier League football fans, but if the rumours reported in The Sun today are true, it will be very soon.

They are reporting that the 17-year-old striker, has been dubbed ‘the new Rooney’ due to his playing style and talent levels at such a young age. The fact he’s also from Liverpool won’t hurt the comparison either.

According to the report, Gelhardt is ranked as the best talent Wigan Athletic have ever found.

Despite this, he’s not been able to get much of a run in the first team this season, mostly due to Wigan’s struggles at the bottom of the league – Paul Cook usually opts for more experience to lead the line in the form of Joe Garner and Keiffer Moore.

This season, Gelhardt has made 13 appearances for a total of 313 minutes in all competitions. In that time, he has one goal, which came against Hull City back in September.
