Barcelona planning summer transfer raid for Premier League star

According to The Daily Mail, Barcelona are looking to bring Wolves winger Adama Traore back to the club. The winger has really dazzled in the Premier League this season and has attracted interest from all over Europe – but Barcelona seem to be in the driving seat in the race for his signature.

Not his first foray at Barcelona

As mentioned above, the Daily Mail have today reported that Barcelona are set to swoop in for Wolves winger Adama Traore.

Interestingly, the 24-year-old Spaniard is a product of the fabled Barcelona La Masia youth academy. Traore played for the Barcelona academy for ten years between 2004-2014, starting at aged 8.

Having spent two years playing for the Barcelona reserve team, Barca B, he did eventually make it to the first team but only made a single appearance and was sold to Aston Villa for £7m six months later.

Barcelona did insist on a three-year buy back clause in his initial contract with Aston Villa, but never used it. That doesn’t come as a surprise given his poor spell at Villa Park, during which he only made 11 appearances without scoring.

After just a year in Birmingham, Traore moved to Middlesbrough where he would stay for two years, making 61 appearances. It was here he developed a reputation for his pace as well as his so-called lack of end product.

Then came the move to Wolves back in 2018 where he has turned into a real superstar. His potential was evident over the last few seasons but that same old problem, end product, kept rearing its ugly head.

Then, this season, he finally seems to have found that the key to his issues in the final third. He’s been so pivotal to everything Wolves have done in attack this season – in 36 appearances this term, he’s managed ten assists – second only to Joao Moutinho. Add five goals to that too and he’s had a very nice season.

Will he go?

Whenever he picks up the ball, there’s a buzz around the whole stadium as the Wolves fans wait with baited breath to see what he can conjure up.

It’s this magic that has attracted Traore’s former side to consider a move to bring him back to the Camp Nou. According to the Mail’s report, Wolves are preparing for a raft of massive offers for the winger – as a Barca boy, it’ll be hard to keep him on side if they come sniffing around.

Despite the fact he is reportedly happy at Wolves, these comments from Adama surely must worry Wolves fans:

‘I have no hard feelings towards Barca. So why not? If Real Madrid or Barca came calling, I’d definitely think about it. My plan is to become one of the best players in England, and after that, sure, I’d like to come back.’

He’s certainly become one of the best players in England this season, so then, Barca is it? Personally, I hope not – as much as I’m not a Wolves fan and couldn’t be much further away from being one, I, along with the rest of the country, very much enjoy watching this lad play.

If he leaves the Premier League it will be a huge loss for the entertainment value, so here’s hoping he sticks around. Or, y’know, signs for another Premier League team…

Maybe he can be the first signing for Newcastle if they get taken over by the Saudis…
