Why Bayern are Champions League Underdogs following 3-0 win at Chelsea

On Tuesday night we saw Bayern Munich win 3-0 at Stamford Bridge thanks to a Serge Gnabry brace and a goal from Robert Lewandowski.

Marcos Alonso was sent off late on as Chelsea are now all but out of the Champions League, requiring a 3-0 win at the Allianz just to take the game to extra time.

As poor as Chelsea were, Bayern are clearly the stronger team. Bayern won all their group stage games and now are all but set to make the quarter final stage.

So with this team in the form they are in and the personnel that they have at their disposal, you should never doubt this team to make a deep run in this season’s champions league.

They should be considered a real contender, which I do not think a lot of people are considering at this present time.

Their league form has picked up and they are now sitting top of the Bundesliga after a good run of form under caretaker manager Hansi Flick.

Are Bayern Munich underdogs for the Champions League.

With Liverpool and Man City the bookies favourites, could Bayern spring a surprise and make it all the way to the final?

As a Liverpool fan I hope they don’t manage it at our expense, but when you look at the form of the German side, you have to be worried about them.

First of all, they have of the most in form strikers in the world in Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 39 goals in 33 games across all competitions.

Alphonso Davies has had a breakout year and looks a star for the future and Serge Gnabry looks ten times the player we saw at Arsenal and the one we saw struggling to get games in a Tony Pulis West Brom Side.

In the 14 games since Niko Kovac was sacked, Bayern have won 11, drawn 1 and lost 2. It looked like at one stage their dominance was due to end but this form has seen them go top of a competitive Bundesliga, something German fans have not seen in years.

When Bayern have won leagues again and again without any competition, we have not seen them go far but when they got to consecutive finals in 2012 and 2013 they had to compete with Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund side in the league.

This level of competitiveness can only have helped Bayern as they never allowed themselves to take their foot off the gas or get complacent.

This is probably why we have yet to see PSG, who have had it easy in Ligue 1, never go far in Europe .

So with this team in the form they are in and the personnel that they have at their disposal, you should never doubt this team to make a deep run in this season’s champions league.
