David Moyes reassures West Ham fans and hopes for big impact from new boy Bowen

West Ham United manager David Moyes has been speaking to the media ahead of his teams match against Manchester City this weekend.

It’s been tough for Moyes so far – time to worry?

West Ham currently sit in the relegation zone, a point behind Aston Villa in 17th. They’ve picked up just two points from their last five Premier League games, but Moyes isn’t overly concerned as of yet.

“Whoever the best teams are, managers are thinking of a plot to try to beat them,” said Moyes.

“You only have to look at Manchester City’s success in recent seasons – it’s been exceptional. It won’t be an easy task, but we’ll try everything we can to get a result.

“What matters is where we are at the end, not the middle of February. You play everybody twice so, come the end of the season, we’ll give ourselves a good chance of being in a strong position but we have to win games.

“The ones coming up at the moment look much harder, but it’s where we are at the end of the season that will really count.”

While I’m sure Moyes is just doing his best to reassure the Irons fans, there most definitely scope for worry at the London Stadium.

After their visit to Manchester to take on City this weekend, they have a week off before they take on Liverpool at home. After that, they face in-form Southampton before taking on Arsenal, Wolves, Tottenham and Chelsea.

So, in the space of seven games, they take on the top two in the league, two in-form teams and not one, not two but three London derbies.

It’s very tough to see where the next win is coming from for David Moyes and his side to be honest.

Their best chance in the near future seems to the Southampton game on February 29th, but even then, the Saints have been in great form recently – picking up nine points from the last 15 available – including one against Tottenham and another against third placed Leicester.

Bowen offers new hope for Moyes

Moyes will be hoping new signing Jarrod Bowen can make a difference to his side in the final third. Bowen has 17 goals in all competitions this season for Hull and will add a different option for Moyes to consider in attack.

“Jarrod is a very exciting prospect, I’m really pleased to have him,” said the Hammers boss.

“I think he’s a player who’s done really well in the Championship over two, three seasons, so he’s had to earn his stripes and show he can do it there. From that it gives me great hope that he’ll step up.

“From the Championship, I’ve taken Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, John Stones, Tim Cahill – some have come in and done a job really quickly and others have taken more time to settle. I’ll find out in time.

“We can’t be putting pressure on new players to completely make the difference here. I thought Tomas Soucek did very well in his first game here. We’ll have to give him time to get used to it.”

There’s every chance that the next few weeks of the season could be quite tough for West Ham fan to endure. However, they get a win against a Manchester City or a Liverpool and it could inject a new lease of life into a pretty down-trodden West Ham side.
