Sweden vs England – World Cup Preview | Quarter Final

England have a great chance to reach their first World Cup Semi Final since 1990 as the take on Sweden in the Quarter final. The Three Lions will have to face Sweden first, who have looked like a good cohesive unit so far in the competition. The winner will meet whoever wins the Quarter Final between Croatia and Russia in the semis.

Sweden Quarter final

Sweden have looked like a strong side and one which works as a solid unit. This is something that the team lacked when selecting Zlatan Ibrahimović, who was not taken to the tournament. Reliant defender Mikael Lustig will not be available for the side after accumulating too many yellow cards and picking up a suspension.

The team has come together and has been one of the biggest surprises in this tournament, reaching the Quarter Final so far. Sweden’s biggest highlight so far in the competition is beating a much favoured Mexico side 3-0 in the final game of the group stages. Like England, Sweden will have full faith that the side can make it to the Semi Finals. Sweden last reached the semis at USA 1994.

The country has gone football crazy ever since the team looked very impressive in the group stages. After winning their first ever World Cup penalty shootout, the team will go into this match with a huge sense of positivism. The team will have to be careful as many important players are one yellow card away from missing any potential Semi Final.

Jordan Henderson, Jesse Lingard, Kyle Walker and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all players who risk missing the next match if they pick up a yellow. Jamie Vardy is an injury doubt after sustaining an injury against Colombia.

Harry Kane will be looking to be the first Englishman to claim the Golden Boot since Gary Lineker won it in 1986. Lineker scored 6 in 1986, while Kane already has 6 goals to his name in this tournament. If England continue with the togetherness they’ve shown so far in the tournament, there is no limit for these set of players.

Sweden will play England at 3:00pm GMT at the Samara Stadium in Samara, Russia at the 2018 World Cup.
