LAZY FAN EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United No Longer Pursuing Argentinian Gamble

Interest from Manchester United, and more importantly Jose Mourinho, in the Argentinian full-back Enzo Diaz has been well documented and goes back to November of last year. As the stories have unfolded regarding Mourinho’s apparent displeasure with left-back Luke Shaw, the links between the Red Devils and left-backs around the globe have been rife.

There have already been exits from Manchester in the full-back position, with Daley Blind re-joining Ajax after failing to impress coaches and ensure regular first-team football with United. Alongside Mourinho’s comments concerning the future of Luke Shaw, it has been clear that Mou’s intentions have been to strengthen his defensive options, as was his hope with a gamble on the unknown Enzo Diaz.

The 22-year old has been playing for Agropecuario in Argentina’s second division, who’s lack of exposure at the top-level of football and level of opposition means a move from Manchester United for Diaz would’ve been a gamble by Mourinho, but perhaps a monetary gamble United owners, the Glazers, could afford to take.

Manchester United pull out of pursuit

Mourinho’s has been aiming to source an attacking full-back to rival Ashley Young, who has joined up with Manchester United’s pre-season late due to his participation in the World Cup with England.

However, it seems that despite having scouts watch the young Argentine for most of 2017, Manchester United will not be able to decide themselves whether the gamble on Enzo Diaz would be worthwhile. Lazy Fan Sports can exclusively reveal that due to a lack of eligibility for a work permit in England, a move to the Premier League is simply not on the cards for Diaz.

With the interest from United scouts known for some time by the world’s media, it is not out-of-question that another European club could swoop in and pick up the full-back in what is certain to be a fairly inexpensive deal, in comparison with the rest of the market, due to Diaz’s lack of exposure at the top.

But what is certain is that the Argentine, will not be playing under Jose Mourinho come to the end of the transfer window next Thursday.
