Cabaye to Olympic Marseille?

A picture has been doing the rounds the on twitter of Cabaye outside what looks like the Olympic Marseille training ground and then picture of him at the Final on his Instagram. He could just be paying them a visit to sort out a contract or just having a look to see what Olympic Marseille have to offer the midfielder. Before making his final decision. Or more innocently he is was just there to watch his friend play in the final.

European Football

Marseille lost 3-0 in the Europa League final tonight but can still qualify for the Champions League if they go above Olympic Lyon in the league this weekend. Marseille currently are one point behind Lyon. They are already guaranteed at least Europa League football next season.

Good Friends

Olympic Marseille’s  Goalkeeper Steve Mandana is close friends with Yohan from there days together in the French Internation squad. It was part of this friendship that encouraged Mandana to move to Crystal Palace two years ago. This turned out a bad move for the Frenchman that couldn’t settle in South London. Now the boot is on the other foot and he could help Cabaye to sign for Marseille.

Crystal Palace

Caybaye’s three year deal at Crystal Palace expires next month. He can currently sign a pre-contract agreement with any club. Palace has probably offered him a contract that would pay cut compared to Yohans current deal at Palace. Caybaye has scored ten goals in 106 games for South Londoners and had been playing very well in the second half of the season. There were rumors of transfer offers in January but Roy Hodgson wanted to keep the central midfielder.

As Palace fan, I couldn’t blame Yohan Caybaye for leaving to going to Marseille a club with European football and iconic stadium. This is probably the last chance for the thirty-two-year-old to play at that level. That said I would be sad to see him go as a cultured midfielder. Even if it’s not this year it will be soon that Frenchman would need to be replaced.
