In what was quite comfortably the most professional fight on the card Adrian Polak took on FAME MMA Poland welterweight champion David Malczynski in a huge rematch. While most of the fans in the arena didn’t know much about the two or about their history, the pair are well known for their battle over the title in Poland, in which Malczynski came out on top.
Malczynski came out to one of the more interesting and intimidating background graphics that had been seen on the night, with the arena lights turning red and a real big fight feel setting over the arena.
This was a fairly technical fight, but while it was obvious that both men had previous experience inside the cage, it was still far off a professional level MMA bout however it was certainly an improvement over what we had seen throughout the night.
Polak opened up with some heavy leg kicks, followed by a slip which Malczynski failed to capitalise on. Both men then began to throw some big shots which failed to connect or land clean, the round seemed to be heading in Polak’s favour before Malczynski managed to land two big takedowns that may have swung the round in his favour.
The big moment of the second round was a huge kick to the groin from Polak to Malczynski. While entirely accidental, everyone in the ground winced and groaned when replays were shown on the big screen. It took Malczynski a few minutes to recover from the huge shot, with Polak immediately coming over to apologise.
The remainder of the second round and into the third round continued with technical striking, Polak managing to get inside and back out without taking too much damage and overcoming the reach disadvantage. Malczynski managed to land a few shots, keeping the fight incredibly competitive, so much so that it became incredibly difficult to decide who won the fight when it eventually went the distance and fell to the judge’s scorecards.
Polak would win the fight via split decision, unfortunately the scores weren’t announced during the event so we weren’t able to know how the judges scored the contest. However it was a great comeback story for Polak who was able to gain a win over the welterweight champion and avenge his previous loss, potentially lining him up for another shot at the belt when the pair return to Poland. Polak would go on to say that he wasn’t overly happy with his performance on the night, despite the fact that he got the win in the end, if that is the case then it’ll be interesting to see how he improves next time out.
